Long Way 2 Go 😮‍💨

Been feeling like there's just... so much I don't know. The more steps I take, the larger I realize the room is. BTB really left me thinking about the idea of establishing curiosity between where I am and where I want to go. I think curiosity implies a level of tenderness- something I find difficult to hold when I'm looking at areas that need improvement. So, I've got a long way to go, but I'm pretty proud of how far I've come.

What a lil honor to have a tiny little cameo from mL. I came back from NY with a goal of consistency- I chose one class to attend for 4 weeks straight, just to see what changed. I found clarity, play, and new directions for sure. The last week of my consistency challenge, Steezy came through to capture Shaun's space. My challenge was to stay grounded in my own growth, and not let the camera rattle me. I challenged myself to stand when Shaun asked for one volunteer, something I'm wildly afraid of. All that to say:
1. Be scared and do it terrified.

"I feel like I need some time alone" has been the theme of so much of my recent experiences. Traveling non stop and trying to do this... thing.... this artistic endeavor... is really daunting. And intimidating. And overwhelming and scary and fun and real and honest and.... I wake up every day so thankful that my passion and my job are colleagues in their own right. Thankful each and every time I have friends who are willing to get in the studio with me to just.... try something on, even when it's spooky. Not for nothing, it's taken me a long time to find peace in this little square of expression. I think it's often easy to fall into the magnitude of choice, both on and off the floor. There are constantly infinite decisions- each little detail of our stories curated more than the last. I'm learning to find peace in being louder, even if I don't always like how I sound. Currently, I'm loving playing with time. For those 90 minutes, how can I stretch each note further from the one before, finding the nuance of the layers under the notes. What a humbling break from reality, where we're drifting faster than we can count. Humbled for the space- Zojea... It's an honor to have a friend like you.

I am so deeply excited to announce my very first PERCUSSIVE CONTEMPORARY classes at @bdcnyc . (Shouts to @anthony.ciaccio302 on the name.) These classes are not quite just contemporary, not fully a soft shoe tap class. The goal: explore the intersection of movement and sound. If you've never taken a tap class, this is an amazing place to start. If you come from tap and want to inform your body, same goes to you. Barefeet welcome; sneakers encouraged.

Whew. A huge step into vulnerability for me. Every year I make a video for my birthday. I try to encapsulate how the year felt to me- and articulate it honestly through movement and creative direction. This year was.... eventful. I have been thinking a lot about the passage of time, and I realized that only 5 years ago I was in a place I didn't romanticize, so far from all my hopes and dreams. Now, to be traveling and sharing my craft feels like.... a dream? An out of body one at best. I am so damn grateful (down to my core) to have the chance to share my heart every so often at BDC. I haven't been feeling so great dancing lately. There's this.... FEELING... that I get mid class that will knock me out of the groove. Sometimes I'll convince myself I'm not doing class right if: I can't put it on the left, use the floor, find levels, am I breathing?, uh oh what did the teacher just say..... etc. You know? But this class I took with the intention of calmness- just one thing at a time. And it felt amazing. So grateful to learn and unlock and power through, cuz gosh sometimes just grounding and breathing is hard enough..... and at the end of the day it's just dance. And the stakes could be so much higher.

Every year I make a video for my birthday. I try to encapsulate how the year felt to me- and articulate it honestly through movement and creative direction. This year was messy. This visual is messy. And that makes me insecure. I've tried for my whole life to make sure everything fit into the *ideal life plan*.... but the older I get the more I realize that doesn't exist. We're just a society of people doing our best... whatever that means. So Julie- here's to being our own forever. No more running away, and please let yourself be messy. Cheers to another lap- we got this.
